You ask for it and the Elected Official Education Program (EOEP) delivers! We are pleased to announce several changes to the EOEP in recent months, including a new pricing model for online education and more online course offerings. PRICING CHANGESEOEP’s mandatory courses, Municipal Governance and Municipal Finance, are now just $350. All others are $250. With new lower registration fees and no travel expenses, online education is even more cost-effective. NEW COURSES ONLINEAll core courses will soon be available to Alberta municipal elected officials online. In addition to Municipal Leadership, the Municipal Governance and Municipal Finance courses are now available. The remaining four core courses will become available over the next four months. Online delivery gives you even more flexibility in your professional development, as registrants have 60 days to complete each course. THE BENEFITSAs an elected official, you face a number of challenges. The demanding arena of municipal politics requires you to continuously expand your knowledge and skills to stay current. The diverse course selection, designed specifically for policy makers, will allow you to bring greater relevance to your role and give you a solid foundation for leading your community. The EOEP was developed to provide elected municipal officials with an opportunity to broaden their knowledge and skills. The result is a higher quality of municipal government and officials who are enabled to effectively achieve the goals of their communities. Carolyn Kolebaba, reeve of Northern Sunrise County and AAMDC vice president, strongly supports the program. “EOEP is a great elected official venue to learn from your peers and educators,” she says. “[It] is an asset to make better decisions based on knowledge learned through the program”. Coronation Mayor Dawna Elliott says the Municipal Governance online course is exactly what her council was looking for. “[It’s] not only in terms of continuing education about our roles and responsibilities, but also in terms of how easy this would be to fit into every councillor’s schedule.” To date, the EOEP has reached over 800 elected officials and provides a solid foundation for strong municipal government.
