Our Fall 2017 Convention are set to take place November 14-17 at the Shaw Conference Centre in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada. Delegates from member municipalities around Alberta are invited to hear plenary speakers, participate in breakout sessions and vote on the resolutions that guide the AAMDC’s advocacy efforts. We will host a new councillor orientation session during the regular agenda, to introduce the AAMDC and all of our programs.

Major General Lewis MacKenzie, MSC, OStJ, CD.
President, General MacKenzie Enterprises Inc.

Major General Lewis MacKenzie was born in Truro, N.S. a long time ago. He is a graduate of Xavier Junior College of Sydney, Cape Breton and the University of Manitoba. During his thirty-five years of military service General MacKenzie served nine years in Germany with NATO forces and managed to fit in nine peacekeeping tours of duty in six different mission areas - the Gaza Strip, Cyprus, Vietnam, Cairo, Central America and Sarajevo.

In 1990 General MacKenzie was appointed commander of the United Nations' Observer Mission in Central America. In 1992 he was assigned to the United Nations' Protection Force in Yugoslavia. In May of that year he created and assumed command of Sector Sarajevo and with a contingent of soldiers from 31 countries opened the Sarajevo airport for the delivery of humanitarian aid. He retired from the Canadian Forces in 1993.

Lew was made an Honorary Chief of the Metro Toronto Police Force in 1993. He holds Honorary Doctorates from St. Francis Xavier, Acadia, St. Mary's and the University of Calgary. He is a member of the Board of Advisors of the Canadian Federation of AIDS Research and a member of the Advisory Board of Canadian Special Olympics.

General MacKenzie received the prestigious Vimy award in 1993 for his outstanding contribution to Canadian defence, to national security, and to the preservation of our democratic values.

The next AAMDC Trade Show will take place on March 19, 2018 at the AAMDC Spring 2018 Convention. The Trade Show is a great opportunity to form relationships with vendors and discover new ways to improve your community. With over 150 booths, including AAMDC approved suppliers, this year's Trade Show was an exciting way to connect communities and suppliers.
