Call for Nominees: North Saskatchewan Regional Advisory Council

Are you interested in developing recommendations to Cabinet on the regional plan for the North Saskatchewan region? Are you familiar with the Land-use Framework and the Alberta Land Stewardship Act? Are you prepared to commit the time necessary to attend all RAC meetings?

The Government of Alberta will form the North Saskatchewan regional advisory council (RAC) within the next year. In anticipation of this, the AAMDC is seeking the names of rural municipal representatives from that area who may be interested in nomination. Historically, the Minister of Sustainable Resource Development has asked the AAMDC to nominate three individuals for each RAC that has been formed. Ultimately, the minister makes the selection and has the authority to choose individuals outside the AAMDC nominations. However, for both the Lower Athabasca RAC and the South Saskatchewan RAC, at least one AAMDC nominee has been selected.

To ensure we nominate individuals that are interested in and qualified for appointment to the RAC, the AAMDC is calling on members to submit nominees. Nominees for the RAC must come from municipalities within the boundaries of the North Saskatchewan region. They are:

  • Beaver County
  • Brazeau County
  • Camrose County
  • Clearwater County
  • County of Minburn
  • County of St. Paul
  • County of Thorhild
  • County of Two Hills
  • County of Vermilion River
  • County of Wetaskiwin
  • Flagstaff County
  • Lamont County
  • Leduc County
  • MD of Provost
  • MD of Wainwright
  • Parkland County
  • Smoky Lake County
  • Strathcona County
  • Sturgeon County

If your municipality would like to present an individual for consideration, please submit the following information to This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. by March 2, 2011:

  1. Name and contact information for individual
  2. Council resolution endorsing individual
  3. Short resume
  4. Statement of interest:
  1. Describe your background and what you could contribute to the development of the regional plan
  2. Describe your previous experience, any training related to the tasks, and any previous involvement in the Land-use Framework process.
  3. Describe the reasons you are interested in this opportunity.
  4. Identify if you are a member of any related organizations or agencies (besides AAMDC).

Once all nominees are collected, the AAMDC Board of Directors will select three individuals to put forth to the Minister, should he request the association’s input. Since submission may be one year away, the nominees will be contacted at that time to ensure they are still interested and available to participate.

Attached is a summary of the AAMDC’s estimate of the role of a RAC member. This information was extrapolated from the terms of references for previously-formed RACs. However, please note that this is not information directly related to the North Saskatchewan RAC, and may not be entirely accurate once it is formed. This information is provided only to help inform the nomination of individuals.
