Information Sessions on Seniors Property Tax Deferral Coming Soon

Beginning in spring 2013, the Seniors Property Tax Deferral Program will be available to eligible senior homeowners.

This will be a voluntary program that will allow senior homeowners to defer all or part of their property taxes through a low-interest home equity loan with the Government of Alberta.

The Government of Alberta will pay the property taxes to the municipality on behalf of the senior. The loan will be repaid with interest when the home is sold, or sooner if the senior chooses to do so.

In the New Year, the Government of Alberta will hold information sessions in Edmonton, Calgary and Grande Prairie to inform municipalities about the program.

Web conferencing will be arranged at a later date for anyone who is unable to attend in person.

More information about the upcoming sessions will be available soon.
