The call for submissions for the 2012 Minister's Award for Transportation Innovation has been launched. This award recognizes those innovative people and organizations within the transportation industry that plan, design, construct, operate and maintain the highway network within the province of Alberta, and have demonstrated excellence in technical or process innovation. This year, the criteria have changed. In recognition of the involvement by other jurisdictions in Alberta, the province of Alberta has opened the award to projects by municipalities that are funded in full or in part by provincial funding. This change is in recognition of innovation that is achieved on projects with inter-governmental collaboration. The focus of the 2012 awards is on safety, roads and bridges. This prestigious award is part of our ongoing partnership between the Department of Transportation, the Consulting Engineers of Alberta (CEA) and the Alberta Roadbuilders and Heavy Construction Association (ARHCA). The awards will be presented at the 2012 Tri Party Conference being held in Red Deer on March 19-20, 2012. Application guidelines are available here.
